iiNet kicks goals on the NBN

20 February 2013:  iiNet, the leading challenger in Australia’s communication industry, today provided the 100 Mbps broadband service supporting a live rugby league training session between rugby greats and junior players at the much anticipated ceremony in Aspley, which switched on the NBN for the town.

The event saw a live video link between rugby league legend Michael John “Mick” Hancock at Suncorp Stadium and an audience of excited kids at the Aspley Football Club with Broncos winger Jharal Yow Yeh.  Deputy Prime Minister Wayne Swan and NBN Co Lead Community Account Manager Darren Rudd were also on hand to witness the training session unfold.

Award winning service provider iiNet was chosen by NBN Co as the ISP to provide the service for the event with the high bandwidth set-up facilitated by iiNet’s Brisbane techii team.

iiNet Chief Executive Officer Michael Malone confirmed that iiNet was proud to support the event. “This live, interactive session gives people just a taste of the possibilities that will be available when all Australians have access to high-speed broadband. We’re excited we can now provide super-fast NBN services to the people of Aspley, made simple by our award-winning customer service,” Mr Malone said.

“Best of all, customers signing up for the NBN in Brisbane can get their iiNet equipment professionally installed by our very own techii team, taking the hassle out of sorting out your home network and connected devices,” reminded Michael.

The fibre services provided by iiNet over the NBN are now available to more than 500 homes and businesses in the Aspley region.
