Excerpt from the December 1997 issue of Pan-American Rabbit Science Newsletter.

"CONCLUSION
Considering these things, what can be recommended for rabbit producers in North America regarding RHD?

1. For rabbit breeders in particular, avoid travel to countries which have the disease. Especially avoid travel to countries which do not make the attempt to control the disease. The RHD virus could be just about anywhere in Australia, for instance. The virus can be on many other things besides a dead animal. If travel to these countries is not avoidable, then treat everything you carried with you as if you had crossed a level two biohazard boundary, and treat all clothing, shoes etc. with a viricide, such as formalin before visiting your rabbits."
