Diagnosis:

A. Laboratory where diagnosis was made: National Centre for Epizootiology and Diagnosis.

B. Diagnostic tests used: clinical and laboratory (anatomopathological, haemagglutination with human type O erythrocytes).

C. Causal agent: viral haemorrhagic disease of rabbits virus.

Epidemiology:

A. Source of agent/origin of infection: investigations under way.
B. Mode of spread: certain protection measures not respected.
C. Other epidemiological details: the last outbreak was confirmed on 4 July 1997.

Control measures during reporting period: stamping out; control of
invertebrate vectors; diagnostic testing; quarantine and movement control
inside the country; vaccination prohibited.
