A brief look at our history

A lot has changed since iiNet was founded in a suburban garage back in 1993, and the broadband landscape continues to evolve. What hasn't changed is our passion for the transformative benefits of the Internet and our commitment to helping Australians connect better.

Our vision is to lead the market with services that harness the potential of the Internet and then differentiate with award-winning customer service. Just take a look at some of these milestones over the years;

2015

iiNet continues to fight for customer’s rights and our stance against Dallas Buyers Club LLC ends in a positive result that will see significant safeguards put in place to protect Australian customers, with discovery being granted under strict conditions.

2013

We celebrate our first 10,000 NBN customers! This is just the beginning of connecting Australians to the National Broadband Network across fibre, satellite, and fixed wireless services.

2010

iiNet announces another Australian first – a monthly broadband data quota of one terabyte (one million megabytes) per month. Following unsatisfactory negotiations with the Department of Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy, we also withdraw from the government's proposed internet filtering trial.

2005

iiNet is the first ISP to offer superfast ADSL2+ broadband speeds on a national scale in Australia. Customers connected to an iiNet DSLAM are able to upgrade to the ADSL2+ speed free of charge.
