Repeat Infringer Policy

iiNet has an obligation to follow the laws of copyright and takes its responsibilities seriously.

The first step is education. We know most people aren't out there to break the law, but if copyright has been infringed repeatedly and knowingly, we may be required to take action under our Repeat Infringer Policy. Under this policy, we will provide account holders with warnings notices, which should be treated seriously. If there is ongoing copyright infringement, we have a policy in place to restrict, suspend or even terminate a customer connection.

We believe in treating people fairly and we certainly don't monitor your activities. That's why we only take action against customers when we have good quality evidence.

One way copyright holders collect evidence is through online investigative bodies like DtecNet, who detect IP addresses of people uploading illegal content. A diagram of this process is outlined below.
