What is online backup?

An online backup creates a copy of your files (eg. photos, documents and music) in a secure location on the internet.

It's like a safety net, so you won't lose your important files if your hard drive crashes. Plus, you won't have to rely on CDs or thumb drives that can get lost or broken.

Some backup services act as a hard drive mirror - that is, if you create, edit or delete files in a directory on your hard drive, the change will automatically happen in your online backup.

Other services require that your files be uploaded manually, giving you more control over which version to store online.

An online backup also allows you to restore your files from anywhere with an internet connection. So you can easily access your files when you're away from your home computer.

iiNet now offers an online backup service called Online Vault. Learn more by visiting our Online Vault page.
