iiNet SIP Trunking - how it works

Let's say you have 10 different phone numbers within your business. Unless you're running a call centre, the chances of all 10 lines being engaged all day could be pretty slim. At most, you'd find that only 4 of those numbers are in use at the same time, at any given time.

With a standard PSTN service, you would pay line rental for each of those 10 lines. With SIP Trunking, you can still have 10 extensions but only pay rental for 4 lines.

service delivery

SIP Trunking uses an IP PBX (Internet Protocol Private Branch Exchange) - a smart gateway that connects your calls and manages the SIP phone network.

If the lines fill up, additional line capacity can be added, with the ability to transfer up to 100 concurrent calls.

With the IP PBX, you'll also have access to features such as voicemail, voice messaging to email, call waiting and more.
